Zenyatta: the daughter of Street Cry lost her first pregnancy

Zenyatta scanned back in foal to Bernardini

LAST year's US horse of the year Zenyatta has been scanned back in foal to Bernardini at the 60-day stage.

The 13-time Grade 1 winner, who lost her unbeaten status when an agonisingly close second to Blame in her swansong race, the Breeders' Cup Classic in November, aborted the foal that was the result of her first mating with Bernardini in March.

Zenyatta's blog, written in the first-person singular on her behalf, said: "This morning, my vets came to check me and… yes, I am eating for two!

"As of thismorning, I have had what is technically called my 60 day check-up. I am happily in foal! All is A-OK! My pregnancy is progressing nicely and the baby has a very strong heartbeat! Yippee!"

Zenyatta's pregenancy will not be fetal-sexed, in line with her owner-breeder Jerry and Ann Moss's policy of waiting to enjoy the surprise of the foal's gender.

Zenyatta is a daughter of Street Cry and a half-sister to triple Grade 1 winner Balance.
