Sea The Stars: will cover 90 Group 1 winners or the dams of Group 1 winners during his first season at Gilltown Stud in Ireland

Sea The Stars set to cover over 90 Group 1 mares

DETAILS of Sea The Stars' debut book of  130 hand-picked mares are close to being finalised.

As well as Zarkava, Sea The Stars' book includes a host of other young Group 1 winners such as Alexander Goldrun, Finsceal Beo, Speciosa and Lush Lashes. The latter is a daughter of Sea The Stars' half-brother Galileo, meaning that the resulting foal will be inbred 2x3 to Urban Sea.

Zarkava: among first book

Zarkava's dam, Zarkasha, is also on the list as are the dams of the Aga Khan's top-class runners Azamour, Darjina (herself booked for a return trip to Dalakhani after failing to get in foal last year) and Behkabad, a son of Sea The Stars' sire Cape Cross who is a leading candidate for this season's Classics after ending his juvenile year unbeaten in three runs for Jean-Claude Rouget.

Other notable names include Song, a daughter of the blue hen Jude who topped last year's Tattersalls December Sales when selling to Badgers Bloodstock for 1.7 million guineas, Spirit Of Tara, the dam of Echo Of Light, and Drama Class, dam of Irish Oaks runner-up Stage Gift.

In all, Sea The Stars' book contains over 90 Group 1 winners or the dams of Group 1 winners, which he will cover at a fee of €85,000.

Pat Downes, stud manager at Gilltown Stud, where the son of Cape Cross stands, said: "Sea The Stars has got an extremely exciting book of mares - not many first season sires would have covered thekind of book that he has and it just proves what high regard he was held in. He's got a busy year ahead."

Sea The Stars has already covered a test pony mare in preparation for his new career, and according to Downes, took everything in his stride.

"The test cover went very well and he's certainly ready for his new job. We're now just waiting for the covering season to start," he said.
