Zabeel excelling as broodmare sire

ZABEEL, one of Australasia's leading sires, has established his position as an exceptional broodmare sire during the 2011/12 southern hemisphere racing season.

The sire, who stands at Cambridge Stud, is responsible for 131 stakes winners and 41 Group 1 winners including the Cox Plate scorers Octagonal, Might And Power, Maldivian and Savabeel.

However, Zabeel's accomplishments as a broodmare sire make exceptional reading and the exploits of his daughters were showcased on Saturday when producing four Group winners.

The Coolmore-owned Atlantic Jewel ran away with the Group1 Ticketek All Aged Stakes at Ranwick, Invest scored in the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks at Morphettville and racing at Te Rapa, in New Zealand, produced two stakes winners: Dolmabache, who won at Group 2 level and the Group 3 winner Burgundy.

Dolmabache was the 94th stakes winner for Zabeel as a damsire and is the latest in a whole host of winners produced on the Zabeel/Danehill line. Other notable winners include Darci Brahma, Purple and Atlantic Jewel.

Mares by the sire are responsible for five new Group 1 winners this season, including Silent Achiever, Year Planet Rock, Atlantic Jewel, Southern Speed and Invest.

Zabeel, a son of Sir Tristram, leads the Australian and New Zealand Broodmare sires' lists, with A$10.4 million (£6,625,607/€8,118,383) in stakes earnings in Australia, A$1 million clear of Danehill.
