ITBA to launch club for young enthusiasts

THE Irish Thoroughbred Breeders' Association will on Friday officially unveil the YITBA, a club for racing and breeding enthusiasts aged 16-24.

The launch takes place at the Stand House Hotel at the Curragh, County Kildare. Registration, from 11am to 11.30am, will be followed at noon by a question and answer session with a panel of leading industry figures including David Marnane, trainer of Saturday's Portland Handicap winner Santo Padre.

At 2pm there will be a lunch, and at 3pm a seminar with up to 20 stands occupied by industry bodies will give students an outlook on the range of jobs available and the routes into them. Every new member of the YITBA – which has its own Facebook group – who signs up on the day will receive a YITBA fleece, baseball cap or bag.

Upcoming events for YITBA members include trips to Coolmore and Ballydoyle, Darley's Kildangan Stud and the Irish National Stud, as well as a Christmas party.
