Written Tycoon filly heads Melbourne sale

THE Inglis Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale got underway at Oaklands on Sunday, headed by an A$80,000 (£51,772/€58,548) daughter of Written Tycoon.

A total of 156 horses sold for an aggregate of A$1,822,000 (£1,179,098/€1,333,440) and an average of A$11,679 (£7,558/€8,547), which lies 4.5 per cent behind last year's overall figure of A$12,228. The clearance rate was 81 per cent.

Inglis director Peter Heagney said: "This has been a very strong day of selling. There was excellent competition on most horses and the clearance rate is indicative of vendors being satisfied with what buyers were prepared to pay.

"But most notably, we had a lot of new buyers here today that we haven't seen participate previously at Oaklands, which is a tremendous result for everybody."

The top lot, out of the Bluebird mare Turtle Dove, was offered by Eliza Park and surpassed last year's top price of A$65,000. The sale concludes tomorrow.
