Derby triumph for King's Best and Juddmonte

A SECOND Derby in a week for King's Best and a second UK Classic win for Juddmonte this season were secured with Workforce's brilliant victory in the Investec Derby.

The success in Japan last Sunday of Eishin Flash proved that King's Best could sire top-class middle distance performers - and Workforce has confirmed that in style.

King's Best stands under the Darley banner for €15,000 at the Haras du Logis in France and is a three-parts brother to Urban Sea, the dam of last season's Derby winner Sea The Stars.

His other top horses include Proclamation, Creachadoir, Best Name, and this year's dual Meydan winner Allybar.

Darley also stand Dubawi, the sire of this season's 2,000 Guineas winner Makfi.

Although King's Best showed a devastating turn of foot to win the 2,000 Guineas in the year 2,000, Workforce's dam line has much stamina.

His dam, the unraced Sadler's Wells mare Soviet Moon, is a full-sister to St Leger winner Brian Boru, and out of the Park Hill Stakes winner Eva Luna.

Judmonte also bred 1,000 Guineas winner Special Duty and have now bred three Derby winners, after Quest For Fame and Commander In Chief.
