Byron switches to Woodlands Stud

BYRON, whose first-crop included eight winners of 14 races this year, will stand at Deirdre Lusbie and Kenneth Cullinane's Woodlands Stud in County Galway for 2011, at a fee of €2,500.

He stood the past season at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket for £4,000.

The nine-year-old son of Green Desert won the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes at two and the Lennox Stakes over 7f in the same grade at three. He was third in the French 2,000 Guineas and retired as a five-year-old the winner of three of 12 starts and £163,704 in prize-money. His dam, Gay Gallanta, won the Cheveley Park Stakes as a juvenile.

Byron's best runners by Racing Post Rating are Ahtoug and Byronic, who each achieved RPRs of 91, while Byrony won four races.

Lusbie said: "He remains in the ownership of Darley and it's likely that he'll go back to them at some stage. We think he's a good sire for the future, with his better crops to come. He got some nice two-year-olds this year and we look forward to his runners coming through next year.

"He's an extremely good-looking horse with a good walk and a great sire's pedigree, by the sire of Cape Cross and Invincible Spirit. We have a longstanding relationship with Darley, already standing Grandera and Moon Ballad."
