Listed success for Intikhab at Deauville

THE Ralph Beckett-trained Without A Prayer made the trip to Deauville a worthy one on Thursday afternoon when taking the 18-runner Listed Prix Lyphard at odds of 81-1.

The colt is the 12th stakes winner for his sire, Intikhab, and the second this season following Les Fazzani, successful in the Listed Gillies Fillies Stakes at Doncaster in November. The son of Red Ransom is also responsible for the smart juvenile Bonnie Prince Charlie, who ran second in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes.

Intikhab will stand the 2009 season at Derrinstown Stud in Ireland at a fee of €7,000.

Bred by Brownstown Stud, Without A Prayer is the first foal out of the unplaced Prayer, a sister to minor winner Smile From Heaven. The daughter of Rainbow Quest is also a half-sister to Second Omen, dam of the Grade 1-placed Soothsay.

Without A Prayer's third dam, Crockadore, won five races in the US including the Grade 2 Orchid Handicap.

Although Without A Prayer is the first stakes winner by Intikhab out of a Blushing Groom line mare, he represents the same Red Ransom-Blushing Groom cross as Dubai World Cup winner Electrocutionist.

Prayer, who was sold to Kevin McAuliffe for 46,000gns at the Tattersalls December Sale last year, has a yearling filly by Traditionally and a filly foal by Chevalier. She visited Red Ransom this season.
