Daughter of El Prado wins Grade 1 at Belmont

THE daughter of El Prado, Winter Memories, put a loss in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies last November behind her when taking the Garden City Stakes (G1) at Belmont yesterday.

She found a lightening turn of foot to get up and deny the Brian Meehan-trained Theyskens' Theory(Bernardini) by a neck.

Winter Memories is a seventh foal out of the Grade 1 winner Memories Of Silver (Silver Hawk), a half-sister to the Grade 2 juvenile winner Memories, the dam of the Group 2-placed British sprinter Russian Revival.

El Prado, a son of Sadler's Wells and a champion sire in the US in 2002,  died as a 20-year-old in 2009. He is sire of the leading young Darley sire Medaglia D'Oro (sire of Rachel Alexandra) and Kitten's Joy, who stands at Ramsey Farm. His Grade 1 winners included Borrego, Artie Schiller, Paddy O'Prado, while his Group 1 winner in Europe was the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud winner Spanish Moon.

Winter Memories will now head to Keeneland for the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes (G2) in October. It is a race won by her dam Memories Of Silver  15 years ago.
