Winning debut for Goffs Kempton sale-topper

AHERN, who topped the Goffs Kempton Breeze-up Sale in April, defied his inexperience on Saturday to make a winning debut for David Barron in the juvenile conditions race at Musselburgh.

The only newcomer in the seven-strong field, the son of Dutch Art wore down Satsuma to win going away by two-and-a-half lengths.

Bred by Hellwood Stud Farm, Ahern was sold by Oak Tree Farm for £80,000 at the Goffs Kempton Breeze-up to David Redvers on behalf of Qatar Bloodstock. That figure marked a good return on the £30,000 paid by Margaret O'Toole for the colt at the DBS Premier Sale the previous September.

He is the sixth winner out of Petra Nova, a placed daughter of First Trump who is a three-parts sister to the Listed-placed Seigneurial.
