High Chaparral filly takes Listed honours

STAKES winner number five for High Chaparral arrived at Deauville this afternoon courtesy of Winkle, successful in the Listed Prix Vulcain.

The filly was also the first stakes winner trained by Mikel Delzangles to carry the Aga Khan's colours.

Winkle is the ninth foal out of Bernique, a Grade 3-placed daughter of Affirmed who went onto produce five winners for Jean-Luc Lagardere prior to her sale to the Aga Khan in spring 2005.

The best of them was the Linamix-sired pair Bernamixa, whose five wins included the Prix de Pomone, and Miraculous, the winner of seven races including the Prix Gladiateur.

Although Bernique was the only stakes performer produced by her dam, Velvet Chieftain, she is a granddaughter of Pink Velvet, the ancestress of Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Crimplene.
