New Zealand stud buys Showcasing half-share

NEW ZEALAND stud Haunui Farm has purchased a 50 per cent interest in Whistbury Manor Stud’s new stallion Showcasing.

The stallion – who will become one of the first sons of Oasis Dream to stand in New Zealand – will cover mares at Haunui during the 2011 southern-hemisphere season alongside fellow European shuttlers Iffraaj and Elusive City, as well as farm resident Don Eduardo.

Whitsbury Stud manager Charlie Oakshott said: "Showcasing has already covered 60 of his 120 high class mares booked for this season and is proving to be extremely fertile, with over 75 per cent of the mares scanned in foal first time.

"He is taking it all inhis stride and we are very confident that he will handle the southern hemisphere seasons with ease."

Showcasing, a half-brother to Listed winner and promising young sire Camacho out of Listed scorer Arabesque, broke the juvenile course record when winning the Gimcrack Stakes at two and was a close second to Prime Defender in the Duke of York Stakes the following season.

Showcasing’s first stud fee in New Zealand has been set at NZ$7,500 (£3,500, €3,970). The purchase by Haunui Farm was brokered by Grant and Tom Pritchard-Gordon of Badgers Bloodstock and Michael Wallace Bloodstock in New Zealand.
