YAA WAYL (3 b g Whipper - Lidanna by Nicholas)

Breeder: Ballylinch Stud in Ireland

YAA WAYLgave Ballylinch Stud in County Kilkenny a fantastic result by winning the Listed City of York Stakes on Friday - his first victory in a black-type event.

Yaa Wayl, who beat Godolphin pair Skysurfers and Fravashi to win the race, is byBallylinch Stud stallion Whipper and was bred by the operation out of the Nicholas mare Lidanna.

He joins Prix du Bois heroine Dolled Up and Listed scorers Royal Bench and Wizz Kid as second-crop sire Whipper's stakes winners.

Lidanna was registered as not sold for 5,800gns and changed hands as a yearling for 13,000gns but, after winning two Group 3s - the Greenlands Stakes and Ballyogan Stakes - was sold aged five as a broodmare prospect for 125,000gns.

Lidanna's other progeny includes stakes-placed Prince Monalulu and Lidanski.

Lidanski is, in turn, dam of Wizz Kid, so Yaa Wayl and Wizz Kid - also fourth in last month's Prix Robert Papin - are very closely related.

Ballylinch offers a Lawman colt out of Lidanski at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October yearling sale this year.
