Well related Song sells for 1.7 million guineas

AS a sister to Yesterday and Quarter Moon and hailing from the high-achieving family of Aussie Rules, Allegretto and Last Second, Song possessed one of the most attractive pedigrees of any lot to go through the ring at the Tattersalls December breeding stock sale today.

The Bugley Stud-consigned unraced three-year-old was also in foal to leading sire Danehill Dancer, and she reached a price reflecting her immaculate page when John Warren, standing with Gestuet Faehrhof's Andreas Jacobs, and Grant Pritchard Gordon, on behalf of Australian owner-breeder Paul Makin, fought out the last stages of bidding on her.

It was Makin, best known as the owner of Starcraft, who won the day with a bid of 1.7 million guineas to trump Warren's final offer of 1.55 million guineas.

The mare will join Makin's broodmare band in Ireland.

Another highlight of the sale so far was Ask For The Moon, the Prix Saint-Alary winner who produced the Galileo colt who at 400,000gns topped last week's foal sale at Tattersalls.

Seskin Stud will be taking home the eight-year-old daughter of Dr Fong, who was offered by Ballyhimikin Stud in foal to Holy Roman Emperor. She was sold for 410,000gns.
