Freshman Bandini off the mark with first winner

FIRST-CROP sire Bandini broke his duck as a sire on Thursday when his daughter Let's Get Fiscal won a maiden special-weight at Belmont Park on her debut.

Let's Get Fiscal is the first foal out of the Touch Gold mare Bouvet, and is trained by Richard Violette Jr for owners Klaravich Stables and W. H. Lawrence.

Bandini, a son of Kentucky Derby hero Fusaichi Pegasus, was an impressive winner of the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland in 2005, after which he started among the favourites for the Kentucky Derby.

However, he injured an ankle in the Churchill Downs Classic and finished down the field, and missed the rest of his three-year-old season. He came back at four to win the Grade 3 Skip Away Handicap.

Bandini stands at a fee of $6,500 at Walmac Farm in Kentucky.
