Take Risks gelding lands prestigious juvenile event

Saturday; Cheltenham: Wragg & Co Juvenile Novices Hurdle (Grade 2) 2m1f

Walkon (Take Risks - La Tirana by Akarad)

WALKON, a French-bred son of Take Risks, strengthened his position near the head of the Triumph Hurdle market when staying on well to take this prestigious juvenile event by one and a quarter lengths from Reve de Sivola.

Bred by the Marquise Soledad de Moratella, Walkon is out of the French Listed winner and Group 3-placed La Tirana, also the dam of six other winners in Europe including the smart French hurdler Fools Rush In (Sadler's Wells) and Peter Of Spain, a multiple-winning son of Take Risks' sire Highest Honor. Another sibling, Pas d'Heure (Arazi) is the dam of the French Listed-winning hurdler Cuiado Chaval (Alhaarth).

Out of the Group 3 Prix Messidor winner Arosa, La Tirana is a sister to Group 2 Prix Greffulhe winner and sire Arokar. This is also the family of Group winnersAnvari and Spout.

Walkon is the best performer seen this season in Britain by the French Group 3-winning miler Take Risks. The 20-year-old has also gained notoriety as the sire of classy French jumpers such as Monsieur Levicomte, winner of the Pris Gaston de Bataille, and the ex-French trained Takeroc, who ran second in last season's Maghull Novices Chase for Paul Nicholls at Aintree.
