Half-sister to Masked Marvel wins on debut

WALDLERCHE, the two-year-old half-sister to this season's St Leger hero Masked Marvel, looked a name to follow when landing a 1m fillies conditions race on her debut at Maisons-Laffitte on Thursday.

Settled on the outside of runners by Pierre-Charles Boudot, the Andre Fabre-trained filly picked up well in thestraight to assert at the furlong marker.

Waldlerche, a daughter of brilliant German sire Monsun, is the fifth foal bred by Hertfordshire operation Newsells Park Stud out of Falmouth Stakes runner-up Waldmark, a daughter of Mark Of Esteem.

The family has been in hot form this year, as Waldmark's half-brother by Dubawi, Waldpark, won the Deutsches Derby.

Waldlerche was purchased by Crispin de Moubray for €100,000 at the Arqana August yearling sale last year. She races for Gestut Bernried but Newsells retain a 50 per cent share.
