Waikato holds premier sire fees at 2010 levels

NEW ZEALAND stallion operation Waikato Stud has held the covering fees for its two blue-chip sires O'Reilly and Pins at 2010 levels, despite good results for both on the track since last year.

O'Reilly is sire of Shamrocker, who this month pulled off a famous double when landing the Australian Derby to add to his Australian Guineas.

The fee for O'Reilly, by Last Tycoon, remains at NZ$50,000 (£24,300, €27,570).

Pins, meanwhile, has been represented by this year's Hong Kong Classic Cup and Hong Kong Derby winner Ambitious Dragon.

Pins, by Snippets, will stand at NZ$40,000 (£19,500, €22,000).

Fees for Waikato Stud's other stallions in 2011 are: Savabeel NZ$20,000; Fast 'N' Famous NZ$8,000; No Excuse Needed NZ$8,000; Rios NZ$5,000; and Scaredee Cat price on application.

Top miler Paco Boy, who shuttles from Britain to Waikato for the first time this year, will stand at NZ$12,500.

"The big thing for us is to offer breeders the opportunity to breed the best racehorses that they can and at good value," said Waikato Stud's owner and general manager Mark Chittick.

"For us to be able to play a part in the likes of Pat Lowry breeding the Hong Kong Derby winner Ambitious Dragon or with Vern Trillo and his incredible filly Shamrocker, it is just massive!"
