Vedette adds to King's Theatre Grade 1 haul

VOLER LA VEDETTE gave more reason to lament the death of her sire King's Theatre at the age of 20 in June with a fluent victory over Mourad (an Aga Khan-bred son of Sinndar) in Sunday's Grade 1 Hatton's Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse.

It was a breakthrough first victory at the highest level for Voler La Vedette, a seven-year-0ld mare trained by Colm Murphy. She had previously won three Grade 2s and a pair of Grade 3s.

Voler La Vedette becomes the sixth individual Grade 1 scorer over jumps for King's Theatre, a King George-winning son of Sadler's Wells who stood at Ballylinch Stud.

She follows Captain Chris, Cue Card, Menorah, Riverside Theatre and Wichita Lineman.

King's Theatre is on a hot streak at the moment, having also supplied Fingal Bay, winner of this month's Grade 2 Winter Novices' Hurdle at Sandown, and The Minack, who scored in last month's Badger Ales Trophy.

Voler La Vedette is owned by her breeder Margaret Brophy, who has enjoyed great success with the dam Steel Grey Lady, having also bred Bet365 Gold Cup winner Hennessy out of her.

Voler La Vedette had been retired to be covered by Presenting - the sire of Hennessy - this year but failed to get in foal and has thus returned to training.
