THE Haras de la Reboursiere et de Montaigu has welcomed an important new foal very early in the season, with a half-sister to Craven Stakes winner Native Khan born on the Normandy stud at around 9pm on New Year's Day.
The new arrival is a chesnut filly by Reboursiere stallion Astronomer Royal, whose first two-year-olds race in 2012.
A son of Danzig out of a half-sister to US Grade 1 winner Vicar, Astronomer Royal won the Poule d'Essai des Poulains and finished third in the St James's Palace Stakes for Aidan O'Brien.
Native Khan and the newborn filly's dam, Viva Maria, is a winning Kendor sister to Poule d'Essai des Pouliches fourth Welcome Millenium.
As well as Native Khan - an Azamour colt who won the Solario Stakes at two and last year's Craven before finishing third in the 2,000 Guineas and fifth in the Derby - Viva Maria is dam of Listed-placed Caipirinia.
