sold to Japan

CHICHICASTENANGO, sire of this season's Prix du Jockey-Club hero Vision d'Etat, has been sold to stand at Shadai Farm in Japan in a deal brokered by Patrick Barbe. The ten-year-old son of Smadoun has stood at Haras de Victot since his retirement in 2004, latterly at a €4,000 fee.

Chichicastenango hit the big time earlier this season when Vision d'Etat landed the Prix du Jockey-Club and Prix Niel, but the stallion's first three small crops also include Group 3 winners Chinandega and Chichi Creasy.

Chichicastenango retired to stud as the winner of nearly €700,000 following successes in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris, Group 1 Prix Lupin and Group 3 Prix Thomas Byon. He also finished second to Anabaa Blue in the Prix du Jockey-Club
