GRADE 1 winner Pioneerof The Nile will stand at Vinery in Kentucky next season as the property of a syndicate. A stud fee will be announced at a later date.

The son of Empire Maker entered his three-year-old season as a leading fancy for the US Classics after closing his juvenile year with a gutsy win in the Grade 1 Cashcall Futurity for owner and breeder Zayat Stables.

The colt went on to become a top-class performer under the care of Bob Baffert, taking the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby, Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes and Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes in the months preceding the Kentucky Derby.

In the Kentucky Derby itself, Pioneerof the Nile finished second to Mine That Bird.

Pioneerof The Nile retires as the winner of five of ten starts and over $1.6m in earnings.

"Pioneerof the Nile is a horse we have admired for a long time," said Vinery general manager Tom Ludt in a statement. "We love his race record, pedigree, and physical."

Zayat said: "We are excited about our partnership with Vinery. We have retained a 50% interest in him and plan to support him in all ways that we can. He is the only colt of his generation to win a Grade 1 at two and three, and was a dream horse to campaign."

Zayat's views were echoed by Baffert, who said: "He had speed when he needed it and a mind that allowed him to handle anything. I had my sights set on the Breeders' Cup Classic and I think he would have been very tough."

Out of the stakes-winning Lord At War mare Star Of Goshen, Pioneerof The Nile is a half-brother to the Grade 2-placed Forefathers.
