Posse transferred to Empire Stud

US THIRD-season sire Posse has been transferred to Empire Stud in New York for the 2010 season. The nine-year-old son of Silver Deputywas the leading freshman sire by earnings in the US in 2007, and sits fifth by earnings on the third-season sire list.

Posse won at Grade 2 level over 7f as a three-year-old, and picked up two Grade 3 races in his career, one as a juvenile over 5½f. He had stood at Vinery Kentucky since his retirement to stud in 2004.

His best progeny include Kodiak Kowboy, winner of the Grade 1Carter Handicap and Vosburgh Stakes this season, and also this year's unbeaten two-year-old Comedero.

Jamie LaMonica, president of Empire Stud, said: "We could not be more excited with the opportunity to stand Posse. He's a proven stallion with a lot of speed and he will be an asset to the New York breeding programme."

The 2010 fee for the stallion, who stood at $20,000 this year, is yet to be announced.
