Listed double for
Tatts Ireland yearlings

SUNDAY'S two Listed races held at Pisa were won by progeny of Invincible Spirit and Noverre. Both winners were graduates of the Tattersalls Ireland September yearling sale.

The 1m3f Premio Andred for fillies and mares fell to the four-year-old Cottonmouth, a daughter of Noverre and the 14-year-old Darshaan mare Nafzira bred by Cloneen Stud.

She was purchased by her current trainer Alduino Botti for just €5,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland September yearling sale in 2005. Her female line traces back to Nilmeen, her fourth dam who also produced Sword Dancer Stakes runner-up and sire Nediym.

The 7f Criterium di Pisa for two-year-olds was won by Varese, a son of Invincible Spirit and Alexander Ridge, an eight-year-old daughter of Indian Ridge. Trained by Bruno Grizzetti, the colt prevailed by half a length.

He was originally purchased at last year's Tattersalls Ireland September yearling sale for €36,000 by Con Marnane. Re-offered by Bansha House Stables at this year's Craven breeze-up sale he went unsold at 19,000gns; taken to the BBAG spring sale a month later, he made €14,000 to a bid from Racing Factory SNC.

Varese is out of a half-sister to the dam of US Grade 2 winner Valbenny, from the further family of Group 1 winners Dibidale and Tony Bin.
