Aga Khan homebred strikes in Matchem

Saint-Cloud: Prix Matchem (Listed), 1m2f, 3yo

VALIYR (c Alhaarth - Valima by Linamix)

Breeder: Haras De SA Aga Khan Scea in Ireland

THE Aga Khan's purchase of Jean-Luc Lagardere's bloodstock empire in 2005 continues to bear fruit for the operation. The Aga Khan homebred Valiyr, who was successful in the Listed Prix Matchem on Friday, is the latest stakes winner to result from the deal; among the otherprominent Aga Khan colour-bearers with Lagardere roots are Carlotamix, Rosanara, Siyouni and Valixir.

He is the second stakes performer from as many foals out of the French 7f Listed winner Valima following the Listed-placed Valasyra (by Sinndar). A sister to minor winner Vadlix, Valima is out of a half-sister to Breeders' Cup Mile hero Val Royal and the dam of Valixir, winner of the 2005 Queen Anne Stakes. It is also the family of Prix Saint-Alary winner Vadawina and her highly regarded son Vadamar, a Listed winner at Saint-Cloud earlier this year.

Valima has a two-year-old filly by Azamour named Valyra and a yearling colt by Nayef - a half-brother to Alhaarth's sire Unfuwain.

Valiyr is the 21st stakes winner by 1995 champion two-year-old Alhaarth, who stands at Derrinstown Stud in Ireland for €5,000.
