Medaglia D'Oro filly breaks Maryland record

TODAY'S Fasig-Tipton Midlantic two-year-olds in training sale at Timonium, Maryland, witnessed a new record price of $650,000 for a female thoroughbred sold in the state.

The record-breaking filly is a bay daughter of Rachel Alexandra's sire Medaglia D'Oro, out of stakes-winning Valid Expectations mare Chit Chat Pam. She had breezed a furlong in 10.2 seconds at the sale's under tack show last week.

The winning bidder was Fasig-Tipton chief executive Boyd Browining, acting on behalf of Rachel Alexandra's majority owners Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke, under the banner of Stonestreet Stables.

Underbidderwas agent Buzz Chace on behalf of Lewis Lakin and West Point Thoroughbreds.

The Kentucky-bred filly, one of four Medaglia D'Oro juveniles in the catalogue, was consigned by Eisaman Equine on behalf of the estate of racehorse owner Edmund Gann, who campaigned Medaglia D'Oro and died in February.

With 135 lots passed through the ring, 85 horses had been sold at an average of $52,565 and median of $30,000, which compares favourably with last year, when the average was$42,099 and the median was $25,000.
