Thorn Song enters stud at Harris Farms

DUAL Grade 1 winner Thorn Song has entered stud this year at Harris Farms in California after undergoing stem cell therapy for laminitis.

The eight-year-old son of Unbridled's Song will stand at a fee of $3,500.

Thorn Song was trained by Mike Mitchell for Zayat Stables to win eight of his 29 starts including all-the-way victories in the Shadwell Turf Mile at five and the Shoemaker Mile at six.

His dam is the unraced Storm Bird mare Festal, who in turn is out of Grade 1 Matron Stakes winner Fiesta Lady.

Thorn Song was severely injured in the Eddie Read Handicap in July 2009 and never raced again.

Harris Farms manager Dave McGlothlin suggested that Thorn Song's recovery from laminitis may mean he covers a limited book.
