Guineas sixth Happy Today tops Dubai sale
WITH the withdrawal of many of the major lots - including Thursday's Meydan Classic winner Burano - it was left to last year's 2,000 Guineas sixth Happy Today to top Saturday's Emirates Racing Authority Horses in Training Sale at Meydan.
Happy Today was smart with Brian Meehan, winning his maiden and finishing second in the Feilden Stakes before running sixth in Frankel's memorable 2,000 Guineas rout.
However, his form for his latest trainer Muhabah Al Nuhairi had tailed off recently, having finished ninth in a Jebel Ali handicap on Thursday, and last in a Meydan handicap earlier this month.
Undeterred, Abdulla Ali Ahmed of Bahrain paid AED310,000 (£53,172/€62,761) for the three-parts brother to Zafeen.
Next best was former John Gosden-trained smart handicapper Tybalt, last seen finishing third in a Meydan handicap in January. He was bought by UAE-based Abdul Khadar Khan for AED210,000 (£36,020/€42,515).
Overall at the sale, 106 horses from 139 offered were sold, for turnover of AED3,511,000 (£602,216/€710,815). The average price of AED33,123 (£5,681/€6,706).
