Two seven-figure mares in Inglis select session

SHARP SUSAN, winner of the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes at Saratoga in 2007, topped the first 'Super Select' session of the Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale in Sydney on Tuesday.

The daughter of Touch Gold was offered in foal to Street Cry and was purchased by Badgers Bloodstock for A$1,050,000 (£682,795/€829,290).

Sharp Susan, a half-sister to Grade 1 winners Sharp Lisa and Spring At Last, will be exported to a leading South African stud.

The other mare to make seven figures on the day was 7f Group 2 winner Mimi Lebrock. The daughter of Show A Heart was in foal to Exceed And Excel and was bought by Baramul Stud for A$1.025m (£666,538/€809,545).

Mimi Lebrock was sold by British-based bloodstock investment group Breeding Capital and Australian stud Yarraman Park, who had bought her after her racing career in May 2009.

Breeding Capital and Yarraman Park have now sold four yearlings and two broodmares for over A$3m over the past year. They also sold Banc De Fortunue for A$800,000 last year and two yearling colts by Fastnet Rock for a combined total of A$875,000.

Response, a dual Group 1 sprint-winning daughter of Charge Forward, was just the sixth lot in the ring and sold to SF Bloodstock for A$840,000 (£546,236/€663,432).

Anotherdual Group 1 winner, former New Zealand champion two-year-old Anabandana, was snapped up by James Bester Bloodstock for A$720,000 (£468,202/€568,656).

The average for 133 mares sold in the 'Super Select' session wasA$135,748 (£88,274/€107,214).

Inglis managing director Mark Webster said: "There were plenty of astute purchases amongst the A$18m traded today and as proven in the past with the dams of Black Caviar, So You Think and Sepoy you can certainly pick up a bargain at the Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale."
