Twice Over sold to stand in South Africa

ADMIRABLE four-time Group 1 winner Twice Over has been bought by Freeman Stalllions and will begin his stallion career at Klawervlei Stud in South Africa next year.

The seven-year-old son of Observatory was trained by Sir Henry Cecil to win 12 of his 33 starts for owner-breeder Khalid Abdullah.

Undefeated in two starts at two, Twice Over first gave notice of his talent when defeating Raven's Pass by a short head to win the Craven Stakes.

Later in his three-year-old season he won the Group 2 Prix Eugene Adam and finished second to New Approach in the Champion Stakes.

A year later he went one place better in the Champion Stakes, before becoming a Group 1 standing dish and adding the Eclipse, another Champion Stakes and the International Stakes to his roll of honour.

A Freeman Stallions release said: "Imagine that you are Khalid Abdullah; a passionate racing man and the world's most successful owner-breeder.

"You are blessed with three champion racehorses in the same year including the world's best horse, Frankel. You already own two of Europe's best stallions (Dansili and Oasis Dream - arguably one of the best stallions in the world) and you have the honour of retiring the world's best racehorse ever to stud next year. A truly remarkable achievement.

"Faced with this surfeit of success what do you do with Frankel's work-companion and champion stable-mate Twice Over, 'the horse that tested Frankel everyday'?

"So we are delighted that Prince Khalid has allowed us participate in his good fortune."

Twice Over is out of Double Crossed, a Lingfield Oaks Trial-winning daughter of Caerleon. She is a half-sister to the dam of Timepiece and Passage Of Time, from the family of Prix du Moulin heroine All At Sea.

Twice Over will be syndicated in South Africa.
