for Congaree

Sunday; Leopardstown: 1,000 Guineas Trial (Gr 3) 7f

MAOINEACH (3 f Congaree - Trepidation)

MAOINEACH, who broke her maiden in the Group 3 Go And Go Round Tower Stakes on her debut last season, drew away to take this trial in authoritative fashion.

A $225,000 purchase by Tom Gentry at last year's Fasig-Tipton Calder Two-Year-Olds in TrainingSale, Maoineach is the first Group winner by dual Grade 1 winner Congaree.

However, the strapping son of Arazi has made a favourable impression in his brief stud career to date with seven individual stakes performers from his first crop including the Grade 2-placed Jeranimo and Listed winners Zigaree and Congo Kaye.

What is even more notable about Congaree is that he has sired stakes performers on dirt, Polytrack and turf.

Congaree, whose finestmoments came in the Swaps Stakes and Cigar Mile Handicap, stands at Adena Springs Farm in Kentucky for $10,000.

Maoineach was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, who enjoyed a huge result on Saturday when their homebred Well Armed ran away with the Dubai World Cup.

A half-sister to last season's Listed Iowa Derby winner Tiz Now Tiz Then (Tiznow), she is the second foal out of the unraced Seeking The Gold mare Trepidation, herself a granddaughter of the Kentucky Oaks heroine Dispute.

Trepidation has a two-year-old filly by Southern Image named Southbound and a yearling colt by Tiznow.
