Trade reaches new heights at OBS June Sale

A NEW sale record was set during the final session of the two-day OBS June sale of two-year-olds and horses in training in Ocala, Florida, on Wednesday when an Elusive Quality commanded $350,000.

Hill 'n' Dale Bloodstock as agent struck the winning bid for the colt, who was consigned by Niall Brennan Stables and is out of Gypsy Hollow, also the dam of French Listed winner Gipson Desert. A $185,000 Keeneland September buyback as a yearling, he was withdrawn from this year's Keeneland April Sale.

His price eclipsed the previous June record of $310,000 paid for a colt by Double Honor in 2004.

A first-crop daughter of Donn Handicap and Godolphin Mile winner Spring At Last also surpassed that mark when selling for $320,000 to Justin Casse as agent. Consigned by Eisaman Equine, she worked two furlongs in :20 4/5, the fastest quarter-mile work of the sale. She is out of the Grade 3-placed Zahwah and a half-sister to the stakes-placed Swift Artist.

Figures soared across-the-board for the two-day sale, with 395 two-year-olds selling for a sale record total of $10,249,100. Not only was the figure up 33 per cent from 2011 but it also surpassed the previous record set in 2008 by over $2.5 million.

Also a new record was the average of $25,947, which was up 25 per cent from 2011. The median leapt 58 per cent to $15,000.
