Improved purses lure Adena sires to New York

FRANK STRONACH'S Adena Springs will move five of its stallions to Saratoga Springs Farm in New York in 2011 due to "the prospect of improved purses as well as stallion and breeder's awards" in the state.

Santa Anita Derby and Goodwood Stakes winner Tiago and Belmont Stakes hero Touch Gold will be transferred from Adena Springs' base in Kentucky.

Silent Name, a dual Grade 2-winning son of Sunday Silence, and Breeders' Cup Classic winner Alphabet Soup make the move from Adena Springs in Ontario, Canada.

Last year's Grade 1 Cigar Mile first-past-the-post Harlem Rocker, a son of Macho Uno, will begin his stud career in New York.

Adena Springs director of sales Dermot Carty said: "Naturally, the slots initiative in the state of New York is very compelling.

"The prospect of improved purses as well as stallion and breeders' awards was a strong motivation for Adena Springs Farm to support the
New York State programme with our stallions.

"We will place young stallions Harlem Rocker, Tiago and Silent Name and proven horses Alphabet Soup and Touch Gold in
New York. They will be reasonably priced to attract the strong support of New York breeders and toattract mares that will be bred back in-state in order to fulfil New York bred requirements.

"We will also support our
New York stallions with Adena Springs’ mares."

Joe McMahon of Saratoga Springs Farm said: "In all of my 45 years in the
New York industry there has never been a group of Grade 1 horses assembled the likes of these."
