REALT DUBH (6yo b g Beneficial - Suez Canal, by Exit To Nowhere)

Breeder: R. Hartigan in Ireland

REALT DUBH put in a fluent round of jumping - in stark contrast to unplaced hot favourite Mikael D'Haguenet - to land this novice chase, which has in the past been won by Central House, Moscow Flyer and Sizing Europe en route to stardom.

The Noel Meade-trained six-year-old, who won the Grade 2 Craddockstown Novice Chase last month, tracked the leader Saludos and was left in the lead when the frontrunner fell at the last. He stretched clear to win by five lengths from German-bred Noble Prince, with Torphichen in third.

Realt Dubh becomes the second jumps Grade 1winner for his sire Beneficial after Cooldine. But that statistic doesn't do justice to the frequency with which the stallion comes up with top jumpers. Other stars on his stud record include Racing Post Chase winner Gungadu, high-class hurdler Sweet Kiln and Midlands Grand National winner G V A Ireland.

Beneficial stands alongside Millenary, Subtle Power and Touch Of Land at Knockhouse Stud in County Kilkenny.

King Edward VII Stakes winner Beneficial's pedigree certainly entitles him to be a top jumps sire. He is a Top Ville half-brother to Melbourne Cup hero Jeune, and other sons of Top Ville sired Best Mate (Un Desperado), Sizing Europe (Pistolet Bleu), Newmill (Norwich) and Solerina (Toulon).

Top Ville is also damsire of Hurricane Fly's sire Montjeu and Little Josh's sire Pasternak.

Furthermore, Beneficial is out of a mare by Green Dancer, the sire responsible for brilliant jumps sire Cadoudal, source of outstanding staying hurdler Big Buck's.

Realt Dubh is out of the Exit To Nowhere mare Suez Canal, a half-sister to Guiza, who was Group and Grade 1-placed on the Flat in France and America.

He was sold as a four-year-old by Brightwells at Cheltenham in April 2008, to agent Mags O'Toole for £90,000. O'Toole also signed for Wednesday's Leopardstown Grade 1 winner First Lieutenant.

Suez Canal also has a five-year-old gelding by Beneficial called Realt Mor and a four-year-old gelding by Son Of Sharp Shot named Gizzit.
