Top turf mare Zagora
to sell at Fasig-Tipton

LEADING American turf mare Zagora is set to be one of the star turns of a stellar catalogue for the Fasig-Tipton Selected Sale in Kentucky on November 5.

The five-year-old daughter of Green Tune will be offered as lot 153 by Michel Zerolo's Oceanic Bloodstock on behalf of owner Martin Schwartz. Not only is Zagora a Grade 1 winner but she is also a leading candidate for year-end Eclipse Award honours.

Zagora began her racing career for Jean-Claude Rouget in France, where she won two Group 3 races. She was sold to Schwartz privately in April 2010 in a deal brokered by Zerolo and went on to run second in the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup on her American debut.

She was then transferred to New York trainer Chad Brown, for whom she won the 2011 Grade 1 Diana Handicap. Her performances so far this season include an impressive victory in the Grade 2 Ballston Spa Stakes at Saratoga in August and a narrow runner-up effort to Nahrain in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes.

To date, she boasts nine wins, including seven at Group/Graded level, and earnings of over $1,280,000. She is likely to make her next start in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Santa Anita on November 2, just four days before her date in the auction ring.

Zagora is a half-sister to the Listed-placed Zanet and out of Zaneton, an unraced daughter of Mtoto from the family of Titus Livus.
