Tizway becomes sire's eighthGrade 1 winner

TIZWAY put up a career-best performance to gain his first top-flight success in the Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park on Monday.

The H. James Bond-trained six-year-old entire raced close to the pace in the mile contest on dirt and swooped to the lead on the home bend, stretching clear to record a two and three quarter length-victory over Rodman (by Malibu Moon), with Caixa Eletronica(Arromanches) another five and a half lengths back in third.

Tizway becomes the eighth individual Group/Grade 1 winner sired by dual Breeders' Cup Classic hero Tiznow.

Tiznow, a son of Cee's Tizzy and thus a rare active representative of the In Reality sire-line, stands at WinStar Farm in Kentucky at a fee of $75,000.

Tiznow's progeny includes Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Folklore, Belmont Stakes scorer Da'Tara and Dubai World Cup hero Well Armed. His seventh Grade 1 winner came courtesy of Morning Line in the Carter Handicap last month.

Tizway was bred by Whisper Hill Farm out of the unraced Dayjur mare Bethany, a half-sister to Travers Stakes winner Will's Way. Bethany's other foals include Ticket To Seattle, a Grade 3-placed daughter of Capote.

Tizway - whose next assignment could be the Whitney Handicap at Saratoga in August - was bought by his owner William Clifton jr for $140,000 out of the consignment of Darby Dan Farm at the 2006 Keeneland September yearling sale.
