Wetherby: good start to big week for Dom Alco

A SECOND winner within a week came the way of the late Dom Alco on Monday when Tigre d'Aron clung on from High Ransom to win the juvenile hurdle at Wetherby.

His victory follows that of anotheryoung representative of the sire, Al Ferof, in a maiden hurdle at Taunton on Thursday. There is also the possiblity of the stallion enjoying a big race double at the weekend with flag-bearers Neptune Collonges and Grand Crus among the entries for the Argento Chase and Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Dom Alco, a Grade 1-placed jumper by Dom Pasquini, died last December aged 23 at Haras de Cercy-la-Tour.

Bred by Marc and Olivier Trinquet in France, Tigre d'Aron is the second winner out of Fleche Noir II, a jumps-winning half-sister to smart French jumper Aigle Noir IV.

A Bridge Too Far added a timely update tohis record when breaking his maiden in the 2m novice hurdle under Tony McCoy. The five-year-old son of Oscar is catalogued as lot 149 at Tuesday's DBS January Sale, and is sold with no VAT, contrary to that stated in the catalogue.
