The victory ofGuy Reed's homebred Tiddliwinks in this event capped a good day for his sire Piccolo following the third-placed effort of Temple Of Boom in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 at Doomben in Australia and win of Cay Verde - out of the Piccolo mare All Quiet - in the Marble Hill Stakes.

Nunthorpe Stakes hero Piccolo is the sire of 17 stakes winners including three who won at Group 1 level. They are led by another Guy Reed colour-bearer, the 2005 Nunthorpe Stakes winner La Cucaracha.

The son of Warning stands at Throckmorton Court Stud.

 

Tiddliwinks's speed has no doubt been enhanced by being out of a mare by First Trump. Tiddliwinks is one of three winners out of his dam, triple sprint winner Card Games, to have been bred by Guy Reed, who also raced the dam.

CHERRY COLLECT (f Oratorio - Holy Moon by Hernando)

Oratorio's resurgence continued in Italy on Saturday when Cherry Collect took the Italian Oaks at the expense of Angegreen, a daughter of Ekraar.

Both the first two home are sired by stallions who are now permanently based in Australasia - former Irish shuttler Oratorio stands at Coolmore in Australia while Ekraar, who started his stud career in Italy, stands at Linwood Park in New Zealand.

However, Oratorio is already the sire of five stakes winners in Europe this season including Prix Edmond Blanc hero Moonwalk In Paris, Nell Gwyn Stakes heroine Esentepe and Tetrarch Stakes winner Takar.

The Group 1-winning son of Danehill is the sire of 20 stakes winners overall.

Cherry Collect is the best of three winners out of 1m3f Italian Listed winner Holy Moon. The daughter of Hernando is out of Centinela, a half-sister to another Oaks d'Italia heroine in Bright Generation.


Haydock: Betfred.com Temple Stakes (Group 2), 5f, 3yo+

BATED BREATH (5 h Dansili - Tantina by Distant View)

Progeny of Distant View mares dominated the outcome of the Temple Stakes with Bated Breath narrowly denying Sole Power (by Kyllachy). The pair pulled well clear of the third, Spirit Quartz.

The winner becomes the 41st Pattern winner by Dansili, whose progeny range from other fast horses such as Delegator to top-class 1m4f runners such as Rail Link and Harbinger. Dansili stands at Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket for £75,000.

Bated Breath is the second Group winner out of Tantina, a 7f Listed winner, this season following his stable-mate, Dubai Duty Free winner Cityscape (by Selkirk). Tantina is also the dam of the Listed-placed Scuffle (by Daylami).

The 12-year-old mare is out of Grade 2 winner Didina and descends from influential mare Monroe.

EMULOUS (5 m Dansili - Aspiring Diva by Distant View)

A SECOND Pattern race victory was recorded by the Dansili - Distant View cross just 50 minutes after Bated Breath's victory in the Temple Stakes when Emulous justified favouritism in the Equestrian Stakes.

The Dermot Weld-trained mare is a sister to 5f Listed winner Daring Diva and the best of four winners out of Aspiring Diva, who was Listed-placed over 7f. She is a half-sister to four stakes performers led by minor American stakes winner Ladyago and out of the Grade 2 Shuvee Handicap heroine Queen Of Song.

Emulous' victory maintained the excellent afternoonenjoyed by Juddmonte Farms, also the breeder of Bated Breath and Jet Away. The operation also stands Oasis Dream, sire of the Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Power.

CAY VERDE (c Bahamian Bounty - All Quiet by Piccolo)

CAY Verde lived up to his home reputation for Mick Channon to become the 19th stakes winner by the National Stud's Bahamian Bounty. The Group 1-winning son of Cadeaux Genereux is best known as the sire of the Group 1-winning brothers Pastoral Pursuits and Goodricke.

Dylanbaru, by Footstepsinthesand, ran second while Infanta Branca became the first stakes performer for her sire, Henrythenavigator, in third.

A £27,000 yearling purchase by Gill Richardson out of the Catridge Farm Stud consignment at last year's DBS Premier Sale, Cay Verde is a product of Lady Whent's famous Bold Edge family; he is athree-parts brother to 6f winner Silenzio (by Cadeaux Genereux) and the second foal out of triple 7f - 1m winner All Quiet, who is out of a half-sister to Bold Edge.

During four seasons of racing for Whent and Richard Hannon, Bold Edge won eight races including the 2000 Prix Maurice de Gheest. He spent six seasons at Throckmorton Court Stud, during which time he sired Whent's Group 2-winning sprinter Assertive.

JET AWAY (5 h Cape Cross - Kalima by Kahyasi)

The 70th stakes winner by Darley's Cape Cross, Jet Away hails from one of Juddmonte's most famous families.

Jet Away is the first foal out of Kalima, an unraced sister to Listed winner Hasili - the dam of Dansili, Cacique, Champs Elysees, Heat Haze (by Cape Cross's sire Green Desert) and Intercontinental. Another Listed-winning sister, Arrive, is the dam of the Pretty Polly Stakes heroine Promising Lead and the Grade 1-placed Visit.

Kalima is also a half-sister to Dissemble, the dam of top miler and high-class sire Leroidesanimaux, Skiable, the dam of Three Valleys, and Kid Gloves, the dam of Grade 2 winner Treat Gently (by Cape Cross).
