New Group winner for Throckmorton's Piccolo

THROCKMORTON Court Stud stallion Piccolo was represented by his ninth Pattern-race winner on Saturday when his gelded son Temple Of Boom landed the Group 3 Aurie's Star Handicap over 6f at Flemington in Australia.

Four-year-old Temple Of Boom, trained by Tony Gollan, won by three quarters of a length from the Redoute's Choice gelding Rekindled Interest, with Offenders, by Canny Lad, in third.

Temple Of Boom was bred by Eureka Stud in Queensland, where Piccolo formerly shuttled from Britian to stand. He is out of the winning Special Dane mare Temple Spirit.

Piccolo's haul of Group winners includes two who struck at the highest level - La Cucaracha in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York and Picaday, like Temple Of Boom, an Australian-bred, inthe TJ Smith Handicap.

Piccolo, a Nunthorpe-winning son of Warning, stands at Throckmorton Court Stud in Worcestershire. His fee in 2011 was £3,000.
