Triple joy for Juddmonte at annual TBA awards

GAVIN PRITCHARD-GORDON and the Duchess of Bedford were revealed as winners at the TBA Award Dinner held at Park Paddocks in Newmarket last night.

Pritchard-Gordon was given the Dominion Bronze in recognition of his outstanding support of the racing and breeding industry over many years, while the Duchess of Bedford, who dispersed her breeding stock at last year's Tattersalls'December sale, received the Devonshire Bronze for her success as an owner-breeder with horses such as Jupiter Island, Precocious and Pushy, all of whom were either out of or descend from her outstanding mare Mrs Moss.

Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte operation scooped three awards: the Queen's Silver Cup as the leading British-based Flat breeder by prize-money in Britain, the BBA Silver Cigar Box in recognition of Dansili's position as the top British-based stallion by earnings in Britain and Ireland and the H.J. Joel Silver Salver in recognition of Binche being named Flat broodmare of the year.

Juddmonte were winning the BBA Silver Cigar Box for the second successive year after Oasis Dream achieved the accolade for the 2009 season. Binche produced last year's Princess of Wales's Stakes scorer Byword along with Proviso, winner of four top-level races in the US in 2010.

Juddmonte's general manager Phillip Mitchell said: "We're thrilled to win any award and particularly the TBA awards, which we consider a huge accolade. We had a wonderful season [in 2010] and we don't expect it to happen every year so when it does we'll enjoy it. These awards are the icing on the cake."

The event was sponsored by Cheveley Park Stud, who took home the Barleythorpe Cup for the leading British-based stallion by individual Flat winners in Britain and Ireland, won by Pivotal for the fifth year in a row.
