Bernardini: US champion was represented by his first stakes winner on Saturday when Theyskens'theory won the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood

First stakes winner for US champion Bernardini

Chichester Observer Prestiger Stakes (Group 3), Goodwood, 7f, 2yo fillies

THEYSKENS'THEORY (f Bernardini - Heat Lightning by Summer Squall) Breeder: AR Enterprises LLC

THEYSKENS'THEORY turned in an impressive front-running display to bag the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood on Saturday and therefore become the first stakes winner for her young sire Bernardini.

The Brian Meehan-trained filly is one of five winners worldwide by US champion Bernardini, a son of A P Indy who stands at Darley at Jonabell in Kentucky for $60,000. As well Theyskens'theory, the stallion's first crop also contains the recent Grade 3-placed A Z Warrior. The pair were conceived when Bernardini stood for $100,000 following a career in which he won three Grade 1 races including the Preakness Stakes.

Hugo Merry and Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services paid $1.1 million for Heat Lightning at the 2005 Keeneland November Sale on behalf of Andrew Rosen just days after her son, Stevie Wonderboy, won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Like Theyskens'theory, Stevie Wonderboy is by a son of A P Indy (in his case Steven Got Even), meaning that both horses are inbred 3x3 to Weekend Surprise, the dam of A P Indy and Summer Squall.

Theyskens'theory was bought back by Steven Young on behalf of her breeder for $250,000 at last year's Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale. The daughter of Summer Squall has a yearling filly by Distorted Humor and a colt foal by Lemon Drop Kid.
