Mahler joins Coolmore jumps stallion roster

MAHLER, runner-up in last year's St. Leger, will stand under the Coolmore jumps banner at the Beeches Stud in 2009. His fee will be on application.

The four-year-old son of Galileo progressed into one of the leading staying colts of last season, winning three races including the Group 3 Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot by three and a half lengths from Veracity. He also landed a Classic Trial at Gowran Park by five lengths.

Following a length second to Lucarno in the St. Leger, in which he finished in front of Honolulu and Macarthur, Mahler was shipped to Australia where he took his chance in the 21-runner Melbourne Cup. Despite lining up as the only three-year-old in the race, he ran a brave race to finish third.

Although kept in training this season, he did not race again.

Mahler is the third foal out of the winning Rainbow Quest mare Rainbow Goddess, a sister to Glatisant who is the dam of 2,000 Guineas winner and Coolmore sire Footstepsinthesand
