Monsun's fee listed as private in 2009

THE fee for Gestüt Schlenderhan's star stallion Monsun has been adjusted from €150,000 in 2008 to "private" in 2009.

The 18-year-old son of Konigsstuhl, who has been blind for several years, has established himself as a leading middle-distance sire thanks to offspring such as Manduro, Shirocco and Samum. Heremains, presumably, the most expensive sire on continental Europe.

He follows the Coolmore pair of Montjeu and Danehill Dancer by moving from a six-figure Euro fee to private next year. With Pivotal's fee reduced from £85,000 to £65,000, it means that no European-based stallion is likely to stand at an advertised fee over the value of €100,000 in 2009.

Schlenderhan also confirmed that the fees for its two outlying stallions will be left unaltered next year. Toylsome, who stands at Gestüt Erftmuhle, will stand at €5,000 and Tertullian, at Union-Gestüt, will stand at €4,000.
