Powerscourt off the mark

TERMAGANT became the first winner sired by Powerscourt when scoring an impressive victory on her debut, in the 7f two-year-old  fillies' maiden at Leopardstown this evening.

The filly was bred by Old Carhue Stud out of the eight-year-old Selkirk mare Rock Salt, a full-sister to Group 2 winner Kirkwall. The dam also has Splinter Cell, a winning three-year-old colt by Johannesburg, and a yearling colt by Red Ransom.

Termagant was bought by Frank Barry for €38,000 at the Goffs Million sale, and is trained by Kevin Prendergast. She holds an entry for the Moyglare Stud Stakes.

Bred by Juddmonte but trained by Aidan O'Brien for Coolmore, Powerscourt won a 1m maiden race at two, the Great Voltigeur Stakes at three, the Tattersalls Gold Cup at four and the Arlington Million at five.

The son of Sadler's Wells stands at Coolmore's Ashford Stud in Kentucky, where his fee this year was $7,500.
