BLAZING TEMPO (8 m Accordion - Leading Duke by Supreme Leader)
Bred by W. Austin in Ireland
BLAZING Tempo bravely fought off Noble Prince to land this feature and provide her trainer, Willie Mullins, with a Fairyhouse treble and her late sire, Accordion, with a second major winner within as many days.
Accordion was on the mark at Haydock on Saturday when another representative, According To Pete, ran out the winner of the Peter Marsh Chase.
One of the first sons of Sadler's Wells to retire to stud, Accordion stood at Ballycrystal Stud in Ireland until his death in 2007. Although unraced, he swiftly developed into a high-class sire of jumpers, siring chasers such as Flagship Uberalles, Albertas Run and Weird Al, and hurdlers of the calibre of Dato Star and Feathard Lady.
He also made his mark on the Flat as the sire of Mark Johnston's tough Group 1 winner Yavana's Pace.
Blazing Tempo, who was unsold on both her trips through the Tattersalls Ireland ring as a young horse, is the only winner from six foals out of the unraced Leading Duke. The daughter of Supreme Leader is, however, a half-sister to the immensely popular Danoli, whose 17 wins included a victory over Jodami in the 1997 Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Leopardstown.
