Sunline produce one-two in New Zealand

OFFSPRING of the former exceptional racemare Sunline filled both the first and second places in a 6f event at Te Rapa in New Zealand on Saturday.

The Zabeel four-year-old colt Sun Ruler denied his year older half-sister Sunstrike, who is by Rock Of Gibraltar.

Sunline tragically died in May this year, having long suffered from laminitis. She won a total of 32 races from48 starts, and that included 13 Group 1s. Raced mainly in Australia where she won two Cox Plates, she also ran in New Zealand, Dubai and Honk Kong, winning the valuable Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin.

The New Zealand-bred mare was by Desert Sun, the former Henry Cecil-trained miler who ran sixth behind Mystiko in the 2,000 Guineas of 1991. She has yet to produce a top-class runner.
