Tatts Ireland: Doyle snaps up son of Network

DEMAND for the progeny of Network has increased substantially over the last year with the Monsun horse having produced horses such as the brilliant Sprinter Sacre and the high class Rubi Light.

Just over six weeks ago at the Derby Sale Peter Vaughan sold a son of the stallion for €130,000 and he was well rewarded for another of Network's offspring early this afternoon when Peter Doyle parted with €52,000 for a three-year-old already named Virtuel D'Oudon.

Lot 60 was well touted prior to his entrance into the ring and he did not disappoint as Doyle fended off a host of different challengers for the relation to the high class dual Group 1-winning stayer Assessor. The gelding will be going into training with Willie Codd.

Gerry Griffin and Nicky Richards, who are long standing supporters of this sale, also weighed in with a notable purchase when giving €33,000 for a son of Montjeu's unraced own-brother Gold Well who made a promising start with his first crop of runners last season. The Ashwood-consigned gelding (Lot 117) is out of a dual winner from the family of the 22 times winner Southern Lad.#

THE early pace at the Tattersalls Ireland August National Hunt Sale is being set by John O'Byrne after he gave €30,000 for a son of the popular Kalanisi from Gatterstown Stud.

O'Byrne's purchase (Lot 19) is the first foal out of a Raise A Grand half-sister to the talented jumper Tumbling Dice whose finest hour came when he landed the Grade 2 Hilly Way Chase at Cork.

A feature of the latest round of store sales has been the interest in the first crop of three-year-olds produced by the classy German runner Arcadio. As the sale got underway the Monsun horse was represented by a gelding (Lot 14) from Mocklershill Stables who came to Eamon Phelan at €15,000.
