Mare in foal to Sea The Stars heads Tatts Mares

THE first mare in foal to Sea The Stars to be offered in Britainlit up Tattersalls' December Sale last night when selling for 950,000gns to agent Hugo Lascelles.

Soinlovewithyou, a half-sister to Duke Of Marmalade who scored as a juvenile for Aidan O'Brien, walked into a packed ring as he attracted the attention of a string of international buyers.
Ted Voute, Charlie Gordon-Watson, New Approach's breeder Seamus Burns and finally Australian agent Tim Stakemire, who often represents Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, were among those to provide Lascelles with his opposition.

"She's been bought for an owner-breeder in Kentucky and although they are racing people they could easily bring the Sea The Stars foal back here to sell," said Lascelles. "The Americans respect what Sea The Stars did and she was a lovely Sadler's Wells mare and a half-sister to a very good horse. She'll be covered by one of the top American stallions, maybe something like Smart Strike."

Lascelles admitted that he had hoped to get the five-year-old for considerably less. "It's disappointing there are so many withdrawals and it means the better horses are few and far between. I had to pay much more than I thought for Soinlovewithyou, I didn't value here at that and thought she would make quite a bit less," he added.
