Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up catalogue out

TATTERSALLS have catalogued 166two-year-olds for their Craven Breeze-Up Sale on April 13-15. The figure is slightly down from last year when 183 horses were entered.

All lots will breeze on Newmarket's Rowley Mile racecourse from 9am on April 13, which will be shown live on Racing UK. Selling commences at 5.45pm on April 14.

Over 90 per cent of those catalogued are eligible for the Racing Post Breeze-Up Bonus while more than half have been nominated to the Racing Post Yearling Bonus.

Although last year's renewal was strongly supported by the Maktoum family, it did not escape the effects of the recession. The aggregate and average dropped 28 and 27 per cent to 8,561,000gns and 102,448gns while the median fell 14 per cent to 60,000gns.

The 2009 sale enjoyed a notable year on the track, however, producing two winners at the top level in the 260,000gns sale-topper Passion For Gold and Vale Of York.

"The 2009 renewal of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale has proven a vintage one with the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Vale Of York and the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner Passion For Gold both graduates of the sale," said Edmond Mahony, chairman of Tattersalls.

"The catalogue for this year' s sale looks full of quality and the Racing Post Breeze Up Bonus Scheme, in its second year, is a welcome addition and will only strengthen the appeal of the sale to buyers from throughout the world."

Featured in this year's catalogue are the full or half-siblings to 85 stakes runners including a Henny Hughes half-brother to 1,000 Guineas runner-up Arch Swing, a Kodiac half-sister to Kingsgate Native and a Pivotal half-sister to Pipalong.
