Tattersalls Ireland to stage €100,000 bumper
TATTERSALLS Ireland will stage a €100,000 bumper at the 2011 Fairyhouse Easter Festival for graduates of this year's Tattersalls Ireland Derby and August sales.
The 2m race will be open to all three and four-year-olds catalogued in the company's forthcoming Derby and August Sales. Prize-money will be paid down to sixth place with €60,000 going to the winner.
"Our store sales are acknowledged market leaders and the new Tattersalls Ireland €100,000 Sales Bumper for graduates of the Derby and August Sales adds another dimension to these two key fixtures in the National Hunt calendar," said George Mernagh, marketing director of Tattersalls Ireland.
"In the current economic climate a new race offering prize money of this magnitude willnot only catch the imagination of buyers at the Derby and August Sales but also encourage vendors to have their horses more forward at the time of sale."
Caroline Gray, general manager of Fairyhouse racecourse, added: "We are delighted that Tattersalls Ireland has decided to stage this exciting new race at Fairyhouse.
"The Easter Tuesday card is already one of the highlights of the Irish racing year and such a high value bumper will undoubtedly further strengthen this excellent day's racing. Tattersalls Ireland has a long and valued association with Fairyhouse Racecourse and I am confident that this significant new commitment will be welcomed throughout the industry. "
Recentgraduates of the Tattersalls Ireland Derby sale include Red Mills Trial Hurdle winner Luska Lad, who cost John Hanlon €24,000 in 2007, and Lightning Novices' Chase hero Woolcombe Folly, who sold to Highflyer Bloodstock for €82,000 in 2006.
This year's Derby Sale will take place on June 24 and 25 while the August Sale, which sold Tricky Trickster in 2007, is set for August 10 and 11.
